Google Ads villain

Which Google Ads villain is your agency?

Google Ads is currently one of the most powerful, and most complex, digital marketing platforms out there. It’s a channel that gives almost any kind of business, regardless of size, the opportunity to get their products and services in front of thousands of potential customers.

If you’re familiar with the platform, you will know that there are endless numbers of settings and fancy buttons to press to help a business achieve its goals. On one hand this is great, on the other it can be quite overwhelming. If not used effectively you risk a lot of time and money being wasted rather than generating business, and no one wants that.

That’s why we understand that finding the right Google Ads agency for your business is a big deal. We’ve highlighted some of the sinners to look out for to ensure your client to agency relationship is a match made in heaven:

The Quiet One

Do you find yourself waiting 2-3 business days for a reply to a simple email? Is your Account Manager never reachable on the phone? Are you left thinking “I wonder how my Google Ads campaign is performing?”. If this sounds familiar, your Google Ads account manager is a poor communicator.

All marketeers have the right to know how their campaigns are performing. Communication should be an essential part of the delivery of a campaign, often it just takes a weekly catch up over the phone. Here at Flourish, we love to build lasting relationships with our clients and will jump at any opportunity to catch up over a coffee.

The Cagey One

Mistakes happen! Plans will go off course and not every experiment will be a success. This can happen agency or client side. The difference comes into play when we fail to learn from mistakes.

A strong agency will take the mistakes and instead think of them as learnings for improvements moving forward. A sinner will give excuses and fail to take responsibility – in this instance, there are no winners.

The Lethargic

Your Google Ads Account Manager should be passionate, energetic and excited to enlighten you to the potential that this channel holds for your business. This is something that you can often spot during the first few encounters with a new agency.

Have they delivered a well-informed pitch with realistic goals? Have they taken the time to fully research your company? Have explored all areas to gain as much from the activity as possible? If this is not the case, alarm bells should ring as they could be The Lethargic.

With a lazy Google Ads Accounts Manager, you can expect sloppy reporting, reactive management and overall underperformance.

The Amateur

Don’t be afraid to ask questions around Google Ads, in particular the performance of search in the industry that you are working in to explore your account managers knowledge of the area. Inexperience is not always a complete sin, but a good Google Ads manager will be keen and excited to share their knowledge with you. You will need to find a flexible agency to be on the ball with the constant changes and challenges of this dynamic platform.

At Flourish, we are all passionate about Google Ads and are always on the look-out for the latest feature to test with our clients.

The Yes-man

“So, you want to treble your revenue on a £1,000 per month budget? And you’d like to do that within the next month? Yes, we can do that!” No. This sounds like The Yes-man.

Far too often in a client/agency relationship an agency will over-promise on unachievable goals for a company in order to get them on board which ultimately will lead to disappointment and bad blood when these are not delivered.

At Flourish we take time in working with our clients to define clear, achievable goals in a strategy that works for both parties.

The Unsuited

The client/agency relationship will not always be a perfect match. Incompatibility is not necessarily a sin, but is something that is preferred to be identified sooner rather than later.

A good Account Manager will be knowledgeable, trustworthy and approachable. If you don’t feel this, they may not be the right fit for your business.
